IntelliVIEW - an enterprise wide reporting solution
Enterprise Wide Reporting Infrastructure
-James F. Koopmann (Database Expert), 19 Jan 2005
In Monday's blog post, I introduced you to the problem faced within the End User community. That being their need to continually re-request new reports because when faced with having to make business decisions. The current reports and data they have typically pose more questions than answers. This is because decision makers tend to think and play the "what if" game, always asking "what if" I had "this" or "that" piece of information. This causes a strain on the already burdened IT industry that has little time to continually re-work reports.
On Tuesday we discussed an information infrastructure that allows our users to connect to multiple data sources, quickly develop, publish, and disseminate reports for information collaboration within an organization. The difference being from the traditional IT developed reports is that the Synaptri' driven solution does not produce static reports but allow for users to retrieve reports and play "what if" scenarios through the use of filters, sorting, real-time data, and a robust analytic engine to name a few.
Not all users are developers or should have access to the full Synaptris IntelliVIEW suite. For this reason the Synaptris Reporter product provides for the interfacing to the reports. Synaptris Reporter is a web-based application that allows for extended analysis, reporting, and content management. It is in fact a content management and delivery system for the reports created or new ones that need to be created. The Synaptris Reporter package has all the analysis tools and functionality you need to click, drag, and drop to create and format reports.

Behind the scenes Synaptris Reporter uses a database repository to store reports and is built upon a security system that protects reports and information at the user or group level.
- Administrators can create users and groups and give them the resources and privileges they need depending on the level of expertise they hold and position in the reporting cycle. They can also manage connections to the data sources and administer the scheduling aspects of report delivery.
- Reporters are users that are developer types that create reports, report templates and publish them to the server for future use or scheduling. They have access to Synaptris Reporter or the IntelliVIEW Designer we talked about yesterday.
- Users are the End Users that require the information from the reports.
- Power Users are high-level End Users that have the ability to modify reports. They are able to use the advanced features of the Synaptis Reporter to manipulate data, generate new reports, bring in data from different data sources, and ultimately answer their business questions.
