The State Department of Corporation (CA-DOC) is California's Investment and Financing Authority. It exercises authority over 1,860 finance lenders with assets in excess of trillions of dollars.

Challenge

CA-DOC had multiple applications to capture data as required by the state's rules and regulations. Usually, a staff person would spend 7 to 10 days gathering and manipulating the data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to create reports. 

Because the end-users were not IT literate and were more comfortable using tools like Microsoft Excel for analysis, the CA-DOC needed a solution with an Excel-like interface, along with drag and drop features for data analysis, formatting and printing.

CA-DOC also desired the ability to generate reports on-the-fly – so that it could remain competitive and responsive – while at the same time cutting costs.
